Introduction
to Champs-Elysees
The world-famous Champs-Elysees in Paris
distinguishes itself for its superb beauty.
It stretches from the serene east to the
noisy west and connects La Concorde in the
east with Arc de Triomphe in the west. Covering
a distance of 1880 meters, the avenue can
be divided into two parts. As to the east
part, the 700-metre avenue is interspersed
with luxurious hotels and lined with thriving
trees, under whose protecting branches there
are gardens, lawns, and leisurely feeding
pigeons. As to the west part, which was
at one time the residence for the noble
and now has evolved into a developed commercial
area, the 1100-meter-long, 80-meter-wide
avenue can allow 10 automobiles to drive
side to side with tall building on each
side. There are more than 0.1 million passers-by
every day and frequent celebrations. On
French National day (July 14) there will
be solemn military inspection with exhilarating
air force performance. By night, above Arc
de Triomphe the spotlight sheds columns
of blue, white and red light which are shining
together with brilliant lights on the avenue.
